Chinese New Year 2027: factory calendar and quality risks

Chinese New Year falls on Saturday 6 February 2027. For buyers of parts made in China, the weeks around it bring more delays and more quality problems than any other time of year. Here is the calendar to plan for and the checks that matter.

The 2027 calendar

Closing and reopening dates vary by factory and by region. The pattern below is what buyers usually see.

WhenWhat happens in the factories
Early January 2027Factories fill their order books before the holiday. New orders placed now often get delivery dates after the break.
Mid to late JanuaryWorkers from other provinces start leaving for home. Output slows and the last shipments before the holiday are rushed out.
6 FebruaryChinese New Year. Most factories are closed. China's official holiday dates for 2027 are normally announced in early November, and we will update this page when they are published.
Around 20 February (Lantern Festival)Many factories restart around this date. Some take longer to reach full staff.
Late February to MarchProduction returns gradually. Some workers do not come back after the holiday, and new operators are trained on the line.

Three quality risks

Before the holiday: rushed lots

Factories push to finish orders before they close. Under that pressure, in-process checks get shortened, packing is done in a hurry, and a short lot is sometimes completed with older stock or with parts from a subcontractor you have not approved.

During the break: goods waiting in storage

Parts that are finished but not shipped can sit for several weeks in an unheated warehouse. Steel parts packed without rust protection or desiccant can corrode, and cartons stacked too high can be crushed.

After the restart: new operators and lost settings

Machines are restarted, tooling is set up again and new operators join the line. The first lots after the holiday carry the highest risk of dimensional drift and assembly errors.

What we recommend

  1. In November, ask each supplier to confirm in writing the date they stop shipping and the date they restart.
  2. Book the pre-shipment inspection at least two weeks before the factory closes. January is a busy month for inspections, so book early.
  3. Ask for the lot to be 100% produced and at least 80% packed on the inspection day, so the result covers the goods that will actually ship.
  4. If goods will wait through the break, specify packing for storage: rust protection for steel parts, desiccant, and cartons that can be stacked.
  5. After the restart, have the first production run checked against the drawing before the factory produces the full order.
  6. If a lot fails inspection a few days before the closure, 100% inspection and sorting can release the conforming parts for shipment while the factory reworks the rest after the holiday.

Book your inspection before the factories close

MSC inspects mechanical, electrical and electronic parts anywhere in mainland China for $240 per inspector-day, all inclusive, with a photo report within 24 hours. Send us the factory city, the product and your shipping date.
